  Course Description:Introduces wilderness medicine and basic life support skills. This course focuses on prevention, assessment, and treatment of environmental illnesses. Recognizing and stabilizing life threats caused from trauma, calling for a rescue, and organizing an evacuation in the event of a wilderness emergency are also covered.

 REQUIRED COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
 1.  Apply basic patient assessment skills on injured or ill persons to identify and initiate treatment on health-related emergencies.
 2.  Identify and initiate treatment of basic traumatic, medical or environment-related problems in patients following industry-standards of care.
 3.  Identify life-threatening conditions in a patient and initiates appropriate treatments and evacuation procedures.
 4.  Assess whether a patient requires evacuation to advanced care, applying industry standard decision-making.
 5.  Apply management techniques for basic non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses on a patient in a backcountry setting.
 6.  Explain essential information when calling for a rescue.
 7.  Demonstrate evacuation practices of a patient in backcountry environments.
