  Title:Climbing Self Rescue

  Course Description:Informs climbers how to confidently handle vertical rescue scenarios ranging from simple to complex in a two to three person climbing team. Scenario based instruction will cover technical lowers and raises of the injured climber, pick-offs, knot passes, and load transfers. This course does not intend to teach first aid practices for climbers but instead focuses on the technical skills necessary for a climbing party to extract an injured climber from a vertical setting.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 1. Apply appropriate risk management practices for vertical, top-rope environments.
 2. Demonstrate proper climbing communication terminology and skills.
 3. Employ all safeguard practices while performing high angle rescue scenarios.
 4. Identify and analyze proper construction of technical rope systems for rescue operations.
 5. Construct mechanical advantage systems appropriate for a variety of rescue situations.
 6. Exhibit individual and team proficiency in the following rope rescue skills passing knots, pick-offs of injured climbers,  rappelling and counterbalance rappelling, lowering injured climbers, and load transfers
 7. Exhibit sound judgment and good decision making skills with safety as a paramount concern.
