  Course Description:Develop the knowledge, skills & leadership to perform rescues in an alpine, mountainous environment. Topics include: rock, ice and snow anchors, rigging dynamics, belay techniques, pulley systems, crevasse rescue & patient evacuation. Emphasis will be placed on field trainings to provide students with a comprehensive foundation of knowledge and skills in alpine rescue.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 1. Demonstrate judgment and decision making skills with safety as concern.
 2. Identify & list common mountain hazards in snow, ice, and glacial environments.
 3. Show a working knowledge of alpine specific rescue equipment by demonstration.
 4. Construct safe snow, ice & rock multiple anchor systems.
 5. Demonstrate the ability to place snow anchors of different types in varying snow conditions.
 6. Show proper belaying, lowering & up-haul techniques of rescuers and patients in a safe, timely manner.
 7. Show and explain how to escape the belay in an alpine rescue scenario.
 8. Construct an improvisational alpine rescue sled.
 9. Illustrate and show proper patient packaging techniques for technical evacuation in a rescue litter or improvised sled.
 10. Execute and manage a simulated crevasse rescue of an injured party.
