  Long Title:Survival Plants: Rockies
  Course Description:Introduces the student to the Survival Plants of the Pacific Northwest with a focus on the geological region of the Lewis & Clark country and the northern Great Basin. The following states will also be studied: Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, northern Utah, Nevada and Colorado. Class will utilize live, pressed and dehydrated specimens, as well as slide presentations. Expanding students’ knowledge of wild useful herbs; edible, medicinal, poisonous and tool-craft plants not seen in earlier classes. Indoor class emphasis allows botanical exploration of wild useful plants year round.

 1. Study wild useful plants of Idaho’s Clearwater National Forest and Lake Pend O’Reille region
 2. Identify wild useful plants of Idaho’s Frank Church wilderness and Salmon-Challis National Forest
 3. Recognize wild useful plants of Idaho’s Snake River Valley, Craters of the Moon region and Owyhee River drainage.
 4. Study wild useful plants of Montana’s headwaters of the Missouri River and its tributaries
 5. Identify wild and useful plants of Montana’s Yellowstone River and drainage and Missouri River Valley
 6. Recognize wild useful plants of Wyoming’s Yellowstone Plateau
 7. Study wild useful plants of Utah’s Salt Lake region
 8. Identify wild useful plants of Nevada’s Ruby Mountains, nearby Humbolt-Toyaibe National Forests and Great Basin National Park
 9. Participate in a local field trip to find and identify Colorado plants that are also found in our regional study area
