Course Description: | Introduces the student to the fall season genus and species recognition of wild useful plants (edible, medicinal, poisonous and tool-craft) in all life zone categories (alpine, subalpine, montane, foothill and desert) in Colorado. Other topics covered will be wilderness survival as it relates to wild useful botany, definition of a “weed”, natives vs. non-natives, parasites and saprophytes, poisoning and habitat synergy. Note: The Survival Plant series of classes can be taken in any order because each course academia is seasonal specific not nomenclature specific. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Examine and understand terminology, facts, methodologies, and concepts related to the nature of Colorado survival plants in the fall
2. Apply the concepts used to safely identify wild and edible plants in the fall season
3. Recognize and understand characteristics, structures, and seasonal differences of wild and edible plants of the Rocky Mountains in fall
4. Apply the principles, procedures, and techniques of wild plant identification and use during field explorations
5. Identify historical and cultural uses of Colorado’s wild and edible plants
