Course Description: | Introduces the student to the summer season genus and species recognition of wild useful plants (edible, medicinal, poisonous and tool-craft) in all life zone categories (alpine subalpine, montane, foothill and desert) of Colorado. Other topics covered will be summertime identification challenges, macro and micro environments, and dangerous lookalikes, and soils, latitudinal and elevational effects. Note: The Survival Plant series of classes can be taken in any order because each course academia is seasonal specific not nomenclature specific. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Recognize and understand terminology, facts, methodologies, and concepts related to the nature of Colorado survival plants in the summer
2. Apply the concepts used to safely identify wild and edible plants in summer
3. Examine and understand characteristics, structures, and seasonal differences of wild and edible plants of the Rocky Mountains in the summer
4. Apply the principles, procedures, and techniques of wild plant identification and use during field explorations
5. Examine historical and cultural uses of Colorado’s wild and edible plants in the summer
