Course Description: | This course provides students with an introduction to foundational knowledge and skills necessary to meet the challenges and enjoyment of skiing or snowboarding backcountry slopes. Using alpine touring, Telemark, or splitboard gear, students will learn techniques for ascending and descending peaks safely and efficiently. The course also focuses on judgment, decision-making, and leadership in ski mountaineering. |

TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Students will identify and apply efficient and effective ascending and descending techniques for ski mountaineering.
II. Students will identify and utilize safe and efficient route-finding practices for ski mountaineering.
III. Students will identify, explain, and apply industry standard accepted avalanche safety practices for ski mountaineering.
IV. Students will identify appropriate alpine touring, Telemark, or split-snowboard equipment for ski mountaineering and apply their use.
