Course Description: | Serves as a basic snowboarding course designed for those who have had little or no prior snowboarding experience. Incorporates a combination of on the snow classes at an established ski area and classroom instruction at the college. For purposes of instruction, students are assigned to small groups based on their snowboarding ability. Snow instruction is taught by certified ski instructors. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:

II. Identify proper techniques for dressing for the cold and recognizing the physiology of the cold.
III. Identify the elements associated with hypothermia and frostbite and treating both conditions.
IV. Identify methods for protecting the skin and eyes from sun exposure while snowboarding.
V. Recognizing potential avalanche hazards and awareness of survival and rescue procedures.
VI. Recognize the legal risks and liabilities assumed when snowboarding.
VII. Recognize the proper accident procedures for on slope incidents.
