  Long Title:Alpine Skiing II
  Course Description:Presents an advanced skiing course designed for students who are ready for advanced instruction in parallel skiing. The course will Consists of a combination of on the snow classes at an established ski area and classroom instruction at the college Students will be divided into small groups and assigned to instructors based on demonstrated skiing ability. All on snow instruction will be by certified ski instructors employed by the ski area.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Identify proper techniques for dressing for the cold and recognizing the physiology of the cold.
 II.     Identify the elements associated with hypothermia and frostbite and treating both conditions.
 III.    Identify methods for protecting the skin and eyes from sun exposure while skiing.
 IV.     Recognizing potential avalanche hazards and awareness of survival and rescue procedures.
 V.      Recognize the legal risks and liabilities assumed when skiing.
 VI.     Recognize the proper accident procedures for on slope incidents.
 VII.    Recognize the ski area safety rules.
 VIII.   Recognize ski area boundaries.
 IX.     Recognize the color-coded ski trail signage.
 X       Recognize the importance of the proper selection and adjustment of skis, boots and poles.
 XI.     Demonstrate matching skis near beginning of turns.
 XII.    Demonstrate skiing with control on green and blue terrain.
 XIII.   Demonstrate open parallel turns with pole plants on blue and green runs.
 XIV.    Demonstrate making short controlled parallel turns on blue and most black runs.
 XV.     Demonstrate linking strong parallel turns on black runs under a variety of snow conditions.
 XVI.    Demonstrate skiing powder on blue and black runs.
 XVII.   Demonstrate skiing bumps and moguls on blue and black runs.
 XVIII.  Recognize the procedures for safe riding of ski lifts.
