STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Rig a tandem and solo boat for class III water.
II. Use and become proficient with safety equipment and its application in class III moving water.
III. Evaluate potential hazards in river environments.
IV. Properly navigate a canoe with tandem paddlers demonstrating proficiency both from the bow and the stern of the canoe in class II+ moving water
V. Properly navigate a solo canoe in class II water.
VI. Understand hybrid white water boat hulls and their unique properties.
VII. Discuss issues and related to minimum impact approaches to lake and river environments.
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Knowledge of procedures when traveling on water to a destination with multiple craft.
II. Demonstrate rescue techniques using a canoe.
III. Understand what clothing and equipment is needed for safety and comfort in the river environment.
IV. Canoe and paddle designs and construction; the advantages and disadvantages of shape and materials.
V. Main Canoeing strokes ¿ ten of them.
VI. Important Canoeing skills
