  Course Description:Introduces risk management in the outdoor environment. Students will gain a better understanding of the inherent risks associated with various outdoor activities. They will learn how to analyze and minimize those risks, how to establish emergency protocols to react to those risks, and how to take the proper steps to resolve the consequences from those risks. After learning to identify, assess and reduce the risk, students will write a risk management plan specific to their area of interest. This course will cover outdoor leadership skills and delve into backcountry emergency situations and scenarios.

 I. Understand and analyze the risks and dangers involved with outdoor activities.
 II. Apply risk prioritization and minimization principles.
 III. Analyze and evaluate group participants.
 IV. Apply the techniques of the risk management process which include risk identification, risk assessment, risk reduction and the risk management plan.

 VII. Understand the permit requirements when planning trips on private and federal lands such as the United States Forest Service (USFS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), National Park Service (NPS), City and State Parks, etc.
