Course Description: | Introduces students to the higher level skill-set required for a successful fly fishing guided experience. Topics will include lake and river dynamics, fly tying, as well as the effects of weather on guided experiences. Methods of guiding the client to the best fishing locations will be discussed. These include wading, floating, moving water, as well as a variety of both hard and inflatable boats. Methods will be taught on the presentation of the fly, successfully striking the fish, and catch and release techniques. Other topics directly related to the business of fly fishing such as risk management, etiquette, permitting, and type of related careers will be discussed. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Students will learn and apply through demonstration, the types of client/guide interactions while on a stream;
II. Students will recognize and demonstrate how to read moving and still water for likely fish location;
III. Students will recognize and analyze the intricacies of making a specific type of presentation to feeding fish. This will include demonstrating their ability to mend the fly line as well as demonstrate making presentations both up and down stream.
IV. Students will discuss and demonstrate setting a hook in a variety of presentations to enhance the success rate of their clients;
V. Students will gain the knowledge and skill needed to select appropriate gear and demonstrate techniques necessary to fish successfully in a variety of weather and seasonal differences;
VI. Students will be able to apply a variety of business related topics such as risk management, etiquette, and type of organizational structure as they relate to the guiding industry;
VII. Students will gain an understanding of the permitting process and regulatory agency involvement in the industry
