STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Students will become familiar with the assembly and physics of the fly rod
II. Students will become familiar with the types of fly lines, leaders and terminal tackle used in a variety of fishing situations
III. Students will be able to successfully rig a fly fishing outfit based upon the species and type of fly presentation
IV. Students will know a wide variety of knots commonly used in the rigging of a fly fishing system
V. Students will be able to identify a wide variety of flies and categorize them in sub-groups related to the natural insect stage being imitated
VI. Students will be able to execute a variety of casts and presentations. They will also be able to relay this information onto their clients while diagnosing and correcting casting errors
VII. Students will recognize the differences between fishing on different types of swift and still waters
VIII. Students will learn the basics of dry fly, nymph, wet fly and streamer fishing
IX. Students will become familiar with trout biology and how it impacts fishing success.
