STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Identify the regulations concerned with excavation projects on their worksite.
II. Classify soil using approved test methods.
III. Select proper shoring, sloping and/or shielding combinations.
IV. Identify hazardous associated with excavation.
V. Define requirements of a Competent Person in trenching.
VI. Design a shoring system given trench dimensions and soil type.
VII. Explain soil mechanics as it relates to trench failure or cave-in.
