 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
         A.      Perform safely and competently in the role of a perioperative registered nurse.

 TOPICAL OUTLINE:
 
 I.      Identify surgical patient assessment criteria in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of care.
 II.     Analyze major concepts and components of sterile technique.
 III.    Describe safety issues in surgical patient care:
 IV.     Evaluate various techniques and medications used in anesthesia.
 V.      Perform in the role of scrub and circulating nurse.
 VI.     Explore various cost-saving measures for efficient utilization of resources in delivery of care.
 VII.    Evaluate areas of responsibility and deficiency in performance resulting in student disciplinary/dismissal action and/or dismissal from the program.
