STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Name, correctly spell terms, locate on a picture or model, and describe the general pupose of some of the tissues, organs and processes of adnexa to the human eyeball.
II. Write the measurement of the globe and various parts of the globe in inches and millimeters. The student will be able to name, spell and define works used to describe various geographical locations common to the ophthalmic industry.
III. Name, locate and describe layers and processes of corneal tissues as related to refraction, nutrition, and waste disposal. The student will relate corneal abnormalities caused by incorrect contact lens fitting to edema conditions, staining patterns and other abnormal corneal situations.
IV. Correctly spell terms, locate on a picture or model and describe the general purpose of limbal and sub-limbal tissues. The student will relate cause and effect of contact lens fitting to limbal tissues.
V. Name, locate and generally describe scleral tissues. The student will relate (generally) diseases such as glaucoma to the optic disc area of the globe.
VI. Name, locate and describe some of the general processes that occur in the middle layer of the human globe. Included in this section are discussions concerning the choroids, the ciliary body (processes and muscles), iris, pupil, and the crystalline lens along with some common abnormalities and effects of aging in these tissues and organs.
VII. Name, correctly spell terms, locate on a picture or model and describe the general purpose of the tissues, organs and processes of the retina and nerve pathways in the human eye as well as describe some common diseases/abnormalies as related to the retina.
