  Course Description:Applies and expands knowledge and skills learned in other clinical courses to provide for the application of adult nursing theory, skills, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking necessary for safe, patient-centered nursing care to multiple patients and diverse adult patients experiencing common and/or complex health alterations. The course incorporates the legal and ethical responsibilities of the Practical Nurse in the care of adults with a variety of health alterations.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 1. Demonstrate safe, quality, patient-centered nursing care to multiple patients and diverse adult patients in a variety of healthcare settings considering basic research, evidence, and patient preferences as the basis for care.
 2. Demonstrate critical thinking and clinical judgment to make patient-centered care decisions.
 3. Demonstrate participation in performance improvement/quality improvement activities to improve patient care to multiple patients and diverse adult patients. Implement performance measures such as nursing-sensitive indicators in the microsystem of care.
 4. Demonstrate participation with healthcare team members, the patient, and the patient's support persons to facilitate effective patient care, in a multiple care patient setting.
 5. Use information technology to support and communicate the planning and provision of patient care in a multiple patient capacity.
 6. Manage care in a variety of healthcare settings for diverse patient populations through the process of planning, organizing, and directing.
 7. Demonstrate professional, legal, and ethical guidelines of care and decision making within the scope of practice for the Practical Nurse.
 8. Demonstrate and promote a culture of caring to provide support, compassion, and culturally-competent, holistic care.

 I. Nursing care, within the scope of practice for the Practical Nursing student providing care to multiple patients and diverse adult patients, that includes all major program concepts and:
 a. critical thinking and judgment to make patient centered care decisions
 b. performance and quality improvement in patient care
 c. collaboration with healthcare team members, the patient and patients support persons for effective patient care
 d. information technology that supports and communicates the planning and provision of care
 e. care management for a variety of patients in a variety of settings, including planning, implementation, organization, and directing
 
 II. All practice concepts of practical nursing, within the scope of practice for the Practical Nursing student working with multiple patients and diverse adult patients, including:
 a. professional guidelines
 b. legal guidelines
 c. ethical guidelines
 
 III. Culture of caring for this specific population that provides:
 a. support
 b. compassion
 c. culturally-competent holistic care
