STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance and the vital functions ecosystems play in the local, regional and global environment.
2. Describe the uniqueness and observe the complexity of species interactions within a variety of ecosystems.
3. Explain the importance of biodiversity.
4. Describe the different types of ecosystems of the area.
5. Define basic botanical terms, scientific classification, and how to use dichotomous keys.
6. Identify natural resource products: their use and manner of harvesting and importance to communties.
7. Demonstrate an understanding of numerous ways to protect these valuable ecosystems through mechanisms such as community conservation areas, biosphere reserves, ecotourism, non-timber forest
products and laws and regulations.
8. Discuss other conservation issues in the region of study.
9. List and identify the biotic species of the area.
