  Course Description:Provides an opportunity for students to review and improve upon skills from Introduction to Chain Saw Use and Maintenance or Wildland Fire Chain Saws. Develops more advanced felling and bucking skills and increased knowledge of chain saw power head, bar, and chain care and maintenance.

 STANDARD COMPETENICES
 
 1. List, define, and apply chain saw safety standards as required by OSHA and NWCG member agency manuals, handbooks, and directives.
 2. Demonstrate proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) in chain saw applications.
 3. Identify chain saw power head parts, nomenclature, maintenance, replacement/repair, tuning, troubleshooting, and safety features.
 4. Demonstrate field maintenance tasks required for chain saw operation.
 5. Demonstrate the application of chain saws in brushing limbing, bucking, and felling operations.
 6. Explain the operation of a basic two-cycle chain saw engine.
 7. Perform routine chain saw power head, bar, and chain maintenance.
 8. Identify chain saw chain cutter types and sequencing and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
 9. Construct a chain saw chain by breaking and re-spinning rivets.
 10. Describe, draw, and perform basic and intermediate-level tree-felling and bucking cuts.
 11. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of felling and bucking cuts.
 12. Identify hazard trees and proper techniques for their safe removal.
 13. Demonstrate and/or explain the removal of a tree that is hung-up in another tree using safety protocols.
 14. Demonstrate and/or explain felling a tree with a heavy lean using safety protocols.
 15. Demonstrate and/or explain how a tree is felled 180 degrees off its head lean.
