STANDARD COMPETENCIES
1. List, define, and apply chain saw safety standards as required by OSHA and NWCG member agency manuals, handbooks, and directives.
2. List the primary components of a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
3. Demonstrate proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) in chain saw applications.
4. Identify 'go/no go' cutting situations based on hazard tree analysis
5. Identify basic chain saw power head parts and safety features using appropriate nomenclature.
6. Demonstrate field maintenance tasks required for chain saw operation.
7. Demonstrate the use of chain saws in brushing, limbing, bucking, and felling operations as related to timber harvesting,
fuels reduction, and timber stand improvement applications.
8. Perform routine chain saw power head, bar, and chain cleaning and maintenance.
9. Identify chain saw chain cutter types and sequencing and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
10. Describe, draw, and perform basic felling and bucking cuts.
11. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of basic felling and bucking cuts.
