Course Description: | Provides an overview of environmental issues in the U.S. and internationally. Analysis of global environmental issues including endangered species, overpopulation, military expenditures, poverty, ocean dumping, coral reef protection, fresh water resources, border problems, deforestation, women and sustainable development, and global warming. Emphasis is on management options and the use of international law and treaties. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Describe elements of international law and the roles of the various international organizations.
II. Describe the Law of the Sea, maritime zones, ocean dumping issues, coral reef exploitation, and how climate change affects the coral reefs.
III. Differentiate between the roles of men and women in developing nations and explain the reasons for population growth within subsistence economies.
IV. Explain the purpose of trade agreements, the environmental trade barriers and green trading.
V. Describe elements of CITIES and the forest stewardship.
VI. Describe how wars, transboundry pollution, accidents and global warming are affecting our environment.
