 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Delineate the scope of practice for a massage therapist.
 II.     Project a professional image.
 III.    Understand the integration of massage therapy in relation to other health professions
 IV.     Recognize the certification and licensing needed for massage therapy and the  legal requirements
 V.      Develop a business plan ¿ envisioning individual massage therapy practice
 VI.     Design an appropriate office environment
 VII.    Describe basic hygiene, both personal and for the office as it relates to universal precautions.
 VIII.   Utilize correct client intake forms and/or questionnaires; record-keeping and documentation
 IX.     Standardize confidentiality and professional ethics
 X       Analyze the needed marketing strategies for a massage therapy practice; advertising, business cards, flyers etc.
 XI.     List the general principles for bookkeeping and taxes
 XII.    Understand the regulations around insurance reimbursement for massage services.
 XIII.   Learn how to use professional networking and peer support
 XIV.    Utilize available partnerships, for community outreach and education.
 XV.     Draw up a legal contract understanding the parameters for use.


 TOPICAL OUTLINE:
 
 I.      Describe the contents of a client intake form.
 II.     Understand how to set up a ledger book for income and expenses. (Use Schedule C tax form as a guide.)
 III.    Be aware of how businesses advertise and analyze the methods used by certified massage therapists.
 IV.     Design a business card and a flyer or advertisement to advertise a massage therapy service.
 V.      Develop a business plan understanding the various formats that can be used.
 VI.     List the primary components of a ¿perfect¿ massage with the general principles for safety.
