Course Description: | Provides the student with theory and practice in performing urinalysis, including kidney function and urine formation. Urinalysis consist of examination of the physical, chemical, and microscopic components of urine. Analysis of other body fluid including cerebrospinal (CSF), serous, amniotic, synovial, seminal, vaginal, and feces are included. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Explain collection of urine in regards to timing, preservatives, containers, and labels.
2. Describe the anatomy of the kidney and urinary tract and how these relate to the process of urine formation.
3. Perform a urinalysis including physical, chemical, and microscopic examination and explain the principles of the tests.
4. Analyze and interpret urinalysis results to detect abnormalities, assign a diagnosis, and prescribe follow up testing.
5. Explain the purpose of specialized renal function and metabolic disorder testing.
6. Describe how various body fluids are formed, collected, and analyzed and correlate laboratory results of body fluids to disease and diagnosis.
7. Perform and interpret testing on various body fluid tests including cerebral spinal fluids and other body fluids.
