STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Identify and describe the use of slings and common rigging hardware.
II. Describe the basic inspection techniques and rejection criteria used for slings and hardware.
III. Demonstrate the basic hitch configurations and proper connections for each.
IV. Apply basic load-handling safety practices.
V. Utilize American National Standards Institute (ANSI) hand signals correctly.
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Introduction & Orientation to basic lifting devices including cranes
II. Safety in the workplace, identifying hazards & defects in equipment
III. Working with wire rope, end fittings and slings
IV. Using thimbles, shackles and other hook devices.
V. Application of skills for use of sockets, and wedge sockets
VI. Identification and use of universal hand signals
