STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Create graphic solutions to complex design projects for business and institutional use
II. Demonstrate the evolution of the design process from thumbnail sketches to comprehensive layouts to camera-ready art
III. Write headlines and body copy for advertising and informational use.
IV. Prepare creative designs utilizing black and white and spot colors.
V. Explain the designer/client/vendor relationship.
VI. Evaluate and select appropriate paper samples to meet the specifications of each design project.
VII. Employ a service bureau to obtain output.
VIII. Visually and verbally present designs in a relaxed and confident manner.
IX. Verbally analyze concepts and designs of projects during critiques.
X Follow standard typesetting and punctuation rules.
XI. Demonstrate the process of file set-up relating to each specific project.
XII. Prepare complex computer files for prepress.
XIII. Demonstrate knowledge of offset printing, proofing and post-production techniques.
