  Course Description:Introduces game design as it relates to mobile and handheld gaming device platforms. Students explore game design specific to the mobile/handheld platform from conceptual development and functionality through the production of a mobile or handheld gaming prototype. Students will examine character/object registration, tweening, inking and specific issues concerning game design for handheld and mobile devices to design real time game objects, levels, characters and environments. Storytelling and visual metaphor development are emphasized.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Understand the unique game design production issues for handheld and mobile devices.
 II.     Analyze and develop a game metaphor that includes the unique functionality of handheld and/or mobile devices.
 III.    Develop a storyboard utilizing the metaphor and level design to be used in supporting the outcomes of the game.
 IV.     Create 2D/3D graphics, objects and characters relating to game play for the mobile/handheld platform.
 V.      Understand character/object actions unique to mobile and handheld gaming, noting the functionality of handheld and mobile devices.
 VI.     Examine the modeling and texture mapping necessary to design game objects, characters and environments using appropriate software titles.
 VII.    Apply appropriate design fundamentals in game design, typography and geometry noting specific or additional functionality of individual handheld and/or mobile devices.
 VIII.   Use a gaming engine and other appropriate materials to design game levels, interactivity, terrains, motion and other concepts relating to game play.

         B.      Production specifications of mobile devices effecting game play, game resolution, game timing, individual mobile or handheld functionality and features.
 II.     Game design production for mobile and handhelds.
         A.      2/3D characters
         B.      2/3D setting
         C.      Character motivation
         D.      Obstacles, character actions and object actions
 III.    Storytelling and Graphic elements
         A.      Develop game metaphor, characters, and basics of game play.
         B.      Create a storyboard or gaming concept plan noting issues with mobile or handheld framework and including mobile or handheld functionality and features.
 IV.     Create backdrop, sounds and 2D/3D graphic scenes for games within the mobile or handheld framework.
         A.      Use spot, directional, point, and ambient lighting.
         B.      Create terrains, textures, particles.
         C.      Key and fill lighting.
         D.      GUI interface integration with mobile or handheld framework functionality and features.
         E.      Color perception for digital match lighting.
