STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Exhibit a working knowledge of design concepts, theory, composition and fundamentals.
II. Demonstrate a working command of the elements of design; line, form, value, color, texture and balance as they are applied to children¿s illustration and used within the design industry.
III. Exhibit a working knowledge of the children¿s illustration components, process, procedures, responsibilities and terminology as it is applied in the design field.
IV. Exhibit a command of color theory used by children¿s illustrators, utilizing Alberts, Itten, Munsel, Pantone and four color process in illustration construction.
V. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the creative process in the design business and identify appropriate children¿s illustrative software or style for reproduction.
VI. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the history of illustration and illustrator that are dictating fashion and trends of the current illustration field.
VII. Exhibit a command of illustrative diversity in style and technique as it applies to the design business and students portfolio.
VIII. Demonstrate a command of the creative process from rough initial visuals to finished print and electronic reproduction.
IX. Demonstrate a familiarity with the creative research foundation, client approval stages, conceptual and style exploration.
X Exhibit a working command of illustration analysis consisting of traditional drawing and rendering skills along with electronic tools and software.
XI. Demonstrate a familiarity of illustrative tools, media, technique and surfaces used in reproduction.
XII. Exhibit an understanding of professional conduct, procedures, time rates and communication skills in the professional work force.
XIII. Demonstrate a working command of illustration composition, visual order and hierarchy, style and project management as used in the visual communication field as an international language.
XIV. Demonstrate a familiarity with business opportunities including; freelance, agent representation, studio and traditional employment as it applies to electronic and traditional children¿s illustration.
XV. Demonstrate a knowledge of professional vocabulary, visual diversity and critical thinking as used in classroom critique and industrial field.
XVI. Exhibit an understanding of creative titles and duties and how children¿s illustration works in unison within the publishing business.
