Course Description: | Guides students through skills development practice exercises related to two knowledge rich interpreting skills¿one related to ASL to English performance and one related to English to ASL performance. Students will be guided through a series of learning activities supported by practice activities, online discussion, periodic self-assessment, peer review, and feedback. Students will explore specific resources available for engaging in skill development and utilize selected materials as part of practice activities. Students will also generate a post-diagnostic assessment and compare results with the pre-assessment generated at the beginning of IPP 290 for the purpose of identifying progress towards overall interpreting competence and creating a plan for continued skill development. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Determine two specific knowledge rich interpreting skills¿one each for ASL to English and English to ASL skill performance¿that require improvement or remediation.
II. Define the elements of each of the two knowledge rich skills according to current research and theories in the field of interpreting.
III. Identify the resource materials needed to engage in skill development or remediation for each of the two knowledge rich skills.
IV. Analyze texts to determine occurrence of specific language features, message meaning, and message coherence.
V. Practice structured skill development activities designed to target the improvement of the two knowledge rich skills.
VI. Generate samples of interpreting performance targeting demonstration of performance related to the skills identified to be improved or remediated.
VII. Conduct a self-assessment of interpreting performance.
VIII. Submit samples of interpreting performance for peer and instructor review and discussion.
IX. Generate a post-diagnostic assessment to evaluate the improvement in skills performance from the pre-diagnostic assessment.
X Utilize post-diagnostic assessment data to create an ongoing skill development plan and the resources necessary to implement the plan.
