STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Analyze, and synthesize ethical and interpreting experiences occurring during internship.
II. Strengthen skills in problem solving and decision-making.
III. Discuss skills and techniques learned during internship.
IV. Examine specialized topics relevant to interpreting. These topics may be selected from the following: perspectives of classroom and deaf education teachers, hard of hearing and deaf students and adult consumers, referral agency coordinators, educational and freelance interpreters, and/or foreign language interpreters; business skills; characteristics of oppressed and oppressor peoples; self-directed growth; evaluation processes; deaf individuals with disabilities; job market analysis; and other topics approved by instructor.
V. Discuss methods for effective resumes, cover letters and job interviews.
VI. Analyze personal short-term and long-term goals, interests and aptitudes.
VII. Recognize the benefits and limitations of simultaneous communication.
VIII. Develop fluency in simultaneous communication.
IX. Create a portfolio reflecting overall readiness for employment and a professional development plan.
