  Title:Interpretation Analysis
  Long Title:Interpretation Analysis
  Course Description:Follows IPP 131 and is a continuation of the work begun in that course. The focus in this course is for students to interpret fully analyzed English texts and to analyze their own interpretations. Students will learn to see what they do well and what needs improvement as well as to develop exercises to improve their work. Students will continue the vocabulary work begun in IPP 131, further increasing English/Sign vocabulary and idioms.

 I.      Understand the Colonomos Model of Information Processing (I)
 II.     Interpret a fully Gish-analyzed auditory text (II)
 III.    Analyze interpretations utilizing the 8 (eight) features of English to ASL interpreting created by Marty Taylor (II)
 IV.     Identify areas most in need of improvement and create activities designed to improve those areas (III)
 V.      Analyze effectiveness, make adjustments to improve activities (III)
 VI.     Explain techniques for ASL to English Interpreting (IV)
 VII.    Learn techniques for cultural bridging while interpreting (V)
 VIII.   Continue to increase English/Sign vocabulary and building on to vocabulary bank developed in IPP 131 (VI)
 IX.     Continue to increase knowledge/use of English idioms (VI)

 I.      The Colonomos Model of Information Processing
         A.      The Colonomos model of information processing will be presented and explained
         B.      Students will demonstrate an understanding of the purpose, levels and steps of the Colonomos Model
         C.      Students will demonstrate different levels of information chunking
 II.     Interpretation Analysis Skills
         A.      interpret the texts that were analyzed in IPP 131.
         B.      analyze interpretations using the features of English to ASL interpreting created by Marty Taylor
         C.      identify error patterns and precisely define them
         D.      identify patterns of success and precisely define them.
 III.    Improving Interpretation
         A.      identify two areas most in need of improvement in students¿ own work
         B.      create activities students can do to improve the identified areas
         C.      do the created activities and note effectiveness and/or refine those activities
 IV.     ASL to English interpreting
         A.      Effective and ineffective methods of ASL to English interpreting
         B.      differences between Transliterating and Interpreting
         C.      ASL to English interpreting with short texts
 V.      Cultural Bridging
         A.      Techniques for cultural bridging
         B.      Opportunities for cultural bridging introduced
         C.      identify opportunities for cultural bridging
 VI.     Vocabulary Development
         A.      continue to build a vocabulary of higher-level,
 VII.    commonly used English words and think through and practice various optional ways to sign those words in different context
         A.      continue to build a vocabulary of English idioms and practice optional ways to sign them in context
         B.      ability to apply higher-level English vocabulary to signs in context
