  Course Description:Presents an one-semester course designed for individuals wishing to obtain a general knowledge of personal insurance. The course is an overview of the loss exposures faced by individuals and families and the type of insurance that is available to treat those loss exposures.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Communicate problems associated with automobile insurance including compensation for victims and No-Fault auto insurance.
 II.     Explain in detail the personal auto policy and homeowners policy including coverages therein.
 III.    Communicate variations in ISO forms and State specific forms along with endorsements that modify coverage.
 IV.     Correlate the regulation and rating of personal auto and homeowners insurance.
 V.      Review and discern loss exposures of individuals and families including personal risk management and types of personal insurance policies.
 VI.     Review and discern miscellaneous residential loss exposures including mobilehome, farms, flood, hard to insure properties.
 VII.    Identify both property and liability loss exposures and understand insurance policies that are available to insure those exposures.


 TOPICAL OUTLINE:
 
 I.      Overview of Personal Insurance:  Examine loss exposures of individuals and families.
 II.     Automobile Insurance and Society:  Examine how auto accidents affect society and how society responds to the problem of compensating injured accident victims.
 III.    Personal Auto Policy:  Examine personal auto insurance and personal loss exposures arising out of ownership and operation of automobiles, and review the liability and medical payments coverage of the personal auto policy.
 IV.     Personal Auto Policy Part 2:  Examine the physical damage coverage of the auto policy as well as the duties of the insured in the event of a loss.
 V.      Homeowners Insurance:  Examine Section I of the HO-3 Policy.
 VI.     Homeowners Insurance Part 2:  Examine Section II of the HO-3.  .
 VII.    Homeowners Variations, Endorsements, and Rating:  Examine the HO-2, HO-4, HO-6 and HO-8 policies and see how they differ from the HO-3.
 VIII.   Other Residential Insurance:  Examine residential loss exposures that require coverages not provided by the homeowners policy and some special endorsements.
 IX.     Other Personal Property and Liability Insurance:  Examine additional property and liability insurance contracts that cover personal loss exposures such as inland marine floaters including the personal articles floater, the personal property floater and the personal effects floater.  Also examine the insurance contract for small boats and the personal umbrella policy.
 X       Personal Loss Exposures and Financial Planning:  Examine the different types of personal loss exposures and the process of financial planning and investing to attain financial goals.
 XI.     Life Insurance:  Examine individual and group life insurance. Focus on the different types of life insurance available and their differences
 XII.    Health and Disability Insurance: Examine health-care problems in the US, providers and types of health insurance, various health policy provisions, disability income insurance, and government health insurance and health-care programs.
