I. Design and use to applicable codes and standards as they pertain to commercial interiors
II. Understand varying types of commercial design projects
III. Understand and execute the design process to create schematic design sketches of rough plans and elevations
IV. Explore 3D schematic design drawings
V. Understand sustainability as it relates to Commercial design projects.
VI. Develop strong research skills for sourcing commercial FF&E characteristics and sources
VII. Work with preliminary design specifications and budgets related to Commercial design projects.
I. Codes and Standards
a. Review and discuss appropriate building codes and ADA standards as they pertain to commercial interior projects
b. Review appropriate finishes as they relate to codes and ADA standards for commercial interior projects
II. Understanding types of Commercial design projects
a. Review design categories; Residential, Medical, Military, Hospitality, Education, Commercial, Corporate, Retail
III. Schematic Design
a. Create schematic design sketches of concept plans and elevations for varying types of commercial design projects
b. Implement space planning and problem solving to create functional and creative design solutions
IV. 3D Schematic Drawings
a. Practice creating 3 dimensional conceptual drawings through hand sketching and computer techniques
V. Environmental practices and materials
a. Describe the impact of design on the environment related to commercial design projects
VI. Research
a. Visit and the understand policies of design and product showrooms
b. Discuss techniques for researching online and ordering samples
c. Discuss and implement current trends, products and technologies in commercial design projects.
d. Provide classroom visits from vendors and product representatives
VII. Budgets and Specifications
a. Discuss and apply research of costs associated with commercial finishes, furnishings and equipment
b. Create basic specifications associated with commercial finishes, furnishings and equipment
