  Course Description:Study and research of fabric types, fibers, weaves, finishes, construction and dying & printing methods for residential and commercial fabrics and carpets. Emphasis is on selection of appropriate and code compliant products for environmental, durability and life safety concerns. Evaluation, selection and specification of textile products to create aesthetic and functional designs appropriate for residential and commercial interiors.

 Recognize simple and novelty fibers / yarns
 II.     Recognize three basic weaves
 III.    Recognize a jacquard and other complex weaves
 IV.     Recognize non-woven constructions
 V.      Learn alternative textile options that meet codes and requirements for durability,  being low-maintenance and sustainable
 VI.     Recognize dye techniques, processes and characteristics
 VII.    Determine performance characteristics of a textile based on fiber, yarn, density, dye technique & construction and appropriate application for Residential and Commercial design projects.
 VIII.   Specify textiles appropriately for furniture, window covering, & floors
 IX.     Generate a textile work order correctly and completely
 X       Develop research skills for located resources

 A. Study and recognize textiles suitable for more durable application requirements
 B. Understand code requirements related to textiles in Residential and Commercial design projects
 III.    Dyes and colorants
 A. Study and understand processes in dying
 B. Research dying techniques and their impact on the environment
 IV.     Labeling and Fire
 A. Study and recognize labeling language and symbols related to fire safety, color/light fastness, cleaning, durability
 V.      Application
         A.     Study and apply appropriate applications for textiles based on furnishings, window coverings, bedding, decorative applications and drapery
 VI.      Soft Floor Coverings
         A.      Study and understand construction, characteristics and specifications of soft floor coverings
         B..      Apply appropriate soft coverings based on project type
 VII.    Research
 A.   Study and apply research methods for locating and ordering textiles and textile samples
