  Long Title:Drafting for Interiors
  Course Description:Introduces drafting tools and techniques used in Architectural Drawing. Students will also be introduced to reading and finding information in a set of Construction Drawings along with some construction terminology. They will also learn about basic wood frame construction techniques. At the conclusion of the course students will be able to draw, dimension, and note Floor Plans, Elevations, and Building Sections.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I. Introduction to drafting tools, their use and how to maintain them.
 II. Develop the ability to obtain information from a set of construction drawings.
 III. Learn basic construction terminology and techniques.
 IV. Learn to letter and draw to professional standards.
 V. Learn to draft Architectural Floor Plans, Elevations and Building Sections.


 TOPICAL OUTLINE:
 
 I. Drafting Tools & Techniques
  A. How to use a parallel bar, drafting triangles, and French curves.
 B. How to read and use an Architects Scale.
 C. How to use a drafting template.
 D. Gain knowledge of different types of media and reproduction techniques.
 II. Construction Drawings
  A. Develop a basic understanding of Graphic Symbols, Abbreviations, and Schedules, and Indexes.
  B. Develop the skill to find needed information in a set of Construction Drawings.
  C. Understanding of the different professional disciplines involved in a set of Construction Drawings.
 III. Construction Techniques
  A. Introduce basic wood frame construction techniques, and materials.
  B. Gain knowledge of standard types and sizes of doors, windows, fixtures, and equipment.
  C. Use appropriate terminology when discussing construction issues.
 IV. Lettering and Linework
  A. Develop hand lettering skills to professional standards.
  B. Illustrate good line quality and correct line weights
 C. Understand the characteristics of “the alphabet of lines.”
 V. Floor Plans
  A. Draft an accurate Architectural Floor Plan illustrating all components of the plans with appropriate lines, and line weights.
  B. Develop the ability to problem solve for information based on given Industry standards and project specific goals.
  C. Accurately dimension the Floor Plan and the relevant components.
 D. Communicate all required information on the Floor Plan through the use of notes and call-outs.
 VI. Elevations
  A. Draft accurate Exterior and Interior Elevations illustrating all components and materials of the elevations with appropriate lines, and line weights.
  B. Develop the ability to problem solve for information based on given Industry standards and project specific goals.
  B. Accurately dimension the Elevations and the relevant components.
 C. Communicate all required information and materials on the Elevations through the use of notes and call-outs.
 VII. Floor Plans
  A. Draft an accurate Building Section illustrating all components of the section with appropriate lines, and line weights.
  B. Develop the ability to problem solve for information based on given Industry standards and project specific goals.
  B. Accurately dimension the Building Section and the relevant components.
 C. Communicate all required information on the Building Section through the use of notes and call-outs.
