Course Description: | Develop, practice and apply skills relating to the design process and design elements. Student will learn to identify the characteristics and needs of social, work, support, and private spaces as it applies to residential and commercial environments. Areas of focus will include sustainability, basic space planning, appropriate selection of finishes, materials, lighting & furniture and development of presentation techniques. |

I. Apply architectural drafting skills to produce various scaled drawing required for project completions
II. Understand the Interior Design Process, the development of design, and the professional practice of Interior Design
III. Identify the characteristics and needs of social, work, support, and private spaces, as it applies to residential and commercial environments
IV. Develop a base of knowledge for human scale dimensions and design awareness
V. Evaluate furnishing selections
VI. Evaluate, research and apply sustainable finishes, materials and furnishings
VII. Evaluate selection and placement of accessories
I. Apply architectural drafting skills
a. Evaluate, understand and create floor plans
b. Evaluate, understand and create a basic lighting plan
II. Design Process
a. Create Programming documentation, Schematic Design sketches, Design Development drawings and space plans
III. Identifying various spaces and defining characteristic needs and how they relate to one another
a. Introduce and implement planning for Social Zones
b. Introduce and implement planning for Support and Work Area
c. Introduce and implement planning for Private Spaces
IV. Human Scale, Special Needs, Basic Codes and ADA standards as they relate to interior spaces
V. Evaluate Furnishings
a. Apply basic understanding of furniture scale related to interior spaces
b. Introduce basic textile and furniture selections based on Residential and Commercial interior spaces
VI. Environmental practices and materials
a. Describe the impact of design on the environment
b. Illustrate the appropriate use of materials
VII. Evaluation of Accessories
a. Introduce scale, placement and quantity of accessory use
