II. Express an understanding of color, its properties and effects on an interior space
III. Learn the basic principles of composition and presentation board construction

Design Process
A. Explore beginning phases of the design process including programming, schematic design
and early design development
B. Select and employ a design concept to focus and control design character
C. Select colors, textures, patterns, materials and finishes that enhance and support a clients needs and preferences
D. Create a harmonious scheme between two mismatched materials
II. Elements of Design
A. Introduce line, shape, form, texture, color and value
B. Provide exercises and discussions
III. Principles of Design
A. Introduce balance, rhythm, emphasis, repetition, contrast, harmony, dominance, unity, scale
and proportion and its use in the design process
B. Provide exercises and discussions
IV. Color and Human Response
A. Discuss the characteristics and effects of individual colors
B. Interpret color fundamentals including value and proportion of color
C. Explore the psychology of color
D. Illustrate the impact of color and the combination of colors on an interior space
E. Provide exercises and discussions
F. Make fine distinctions between color values, hues and intensities
V. Presentation Skills
A. Develop skills to prepare a variety of professional presentation boards while developing an
understanding of various tools, adhesives and board styles
B. Work individually and/or as a team member to produce professional oral and visual design
presentations
C. Learn professional standards for presentation boards and oral presentation delivery
D. Express aesthetic opinion/judgment regarding design projects and selections
E. Use appropriate terminology when discussing design problems and solutions
