Course Description: | Introduces the student to the physiological responses and adaptations of individuals to exercise as well as the application to sports medicine, rehabilitation and general fitness. The laboratory provides experiences that demonstrate the underlying theoretical constructs that govern physiological responses and adaptions to exercise. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Demonstrate the importance of the scientific study of physiology of exercise as it applies to physical
education, athletics, adult fitness, rehabilitation, etc., through the assigned readings, written tests,
laboratory assignments and projects which are required of students.
2. Understand the basic knowledge and principles regarding the nature of neuromuscular activity.
3. Understand the basic knowledge and principles of circulatory and respiratory adjustments during exercise.
This is accomplished through assigned readings, papers and laboratory projects.
4. Demonstrate sound attitudes toward research of physiology of exercise in physical education and athletics.
This is accomplished by the assignment of independent research project proposal to each student.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of special physiological concerns for women, children and the elderly relative to total lifetime fitness.
6. Demonstrate knowledge related to career opportunities in business and industry, medicine and education that relate to exercise physiology.
