  Course Description:Encompasses a variety of different activities (choreographed or non-choreographed) led by a qualified instructor. Classes may include aerobics (step & floor), mind body (Yoga/Pilates), or specialty (kickboxing, stability ball, senior classes, and arthritis). Class format will focus on preparing students to lead a variety of group exercise classes as a certified fitness instructor with entry level skill set.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 1. Maintain and/or improve the 5 components of health: cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition, and flexibility.
 2. Develop necessary skills to design group fitness classes.
 3. Educate participants on training principles as related to group exercise fitness
 4. Explain motivational-behavioral change strategies in helping people become lifelong movers.
 5. Assess participants and various programs.
 6. Choreograph and construct exercise class(es).
 7. Demonstrate leadership and various pedagogical techniques.
 8. Practice professional responsibilities, minimizing legal conflicts and emergencies.
