  Course Description:This Skills and Methods of Teaching Weight Training class is intended for students in the Human Performance Program. It is designed to acquaint the student with the basic skills, methods and techniques necessary to be a competent exercise leader in the area of resistance training. Emphasis will be placed on understanding selection of appropriate teaching progressions that relate to the weight room and fitness facility as well as the science of human motion and muscle/joint structure and function as it relates to fitness.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Students who pass this course should be able to:
 II.     Understand basic principles of resistance training and exercise prescription
 III.    Know the different types of strength training
 IV.     Understand the neuromuscular physiology and adaptions to resistance training
 V.      Integrate other fitness components
 VI.     Develop and write individualized resistance training workouts for individuals
 VII.    Design resistance training programs for women, children and seniors
 VIII.   Evaluate and understand nutrition and sports supplements
 IX.     Evaluate and understand appropriate usage of different resistance training equipment
 X       Recognize liability issues and concerns in the weight room
 XI.     Use of various pedagogical skills and styles when presenting topics to clients
