STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. This emergency medicine course is designed to focus on pre-hospital skills necessary to manage extended care situations in remote wilderness environments.
II. Upon completion of this course, students will develop and effectively demonstrate knowledge of all topics listed.
III. Students will demonstrate competency in a variety of emergency situations, including managing trauma, medical and environmental emergencies.
IV. Students will demonstrate practical competency in hands-on scenarios that are designed to measure knowledge of anatomy and physiology, as well as medical treatments.
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation,
II. Patient assessment,
III. Trauma (bleeding, shock, orthopedic injuries, and burns),
IV. Medical (heart, brain, abdomen, diabetes, anaphylaxis, gender),
V. Environmental (heat, cold, water, altitude, bites, and stings).
