 REQUIRED COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
 1.  Identify basic anatomical and biomechanical concepts and principles as they pertain to health and fitness.
 2.  Utilize various exercise physiological concepts as they pertain to personal training and small group training.
 3.  Modify exercise training techniques as they pertain to human development and aging.
 4.  List various risk factors and pathophysiological concerns identified by national standards.
 5.  Interpret psychological strategies and human behavior patterns expressed by clients when exercising.
 6.  Provide health-related appraisals and fitness assessments for an individualized exercise program.
 7.  Distinguish risk and legal ramifications pertaining to a personal trainer and injury prevention.
 8.  Formulate proper screening techniques and exercise prescriptions as they relate to exercise programming.
 9.  Evaluate individual nutritional needs and the impact on weight management, weight loss, and weight gain.
 10. Explain the role of program design and management for a career in personal training.
 11. Develop a business plan for the personal trainer entrepreneur.

        C.  Basic anatomy of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems
        D.  Biomechanical aspects of exercise participation
        E.  Primary action and joint range of motion for each major muscle group
        F.  Interrelationship among center of gravity, base support, balance, stability, and proper spinal alignment
 II.   Exercise physiology
        A.  Aerobic and anaerobic metabolism
        B.  Energy systems relating to caloric expenditure and exercise performance
        C.  Role of carbohydrates, fats and proteins in energy expenditure and exercise performance
        D.  Physiological and metabolic responses to exercise for people with chronic diseases

        E.  Detraining or reversibility of conditioning

        C.  Leadership techniques appropriate for working with participants of all ages
        D.  Modification of exercises for all ages and physical conditions
        E.  Effect of the aging process on the musculoskeletal and cardiovascular structure and function at rest, during exercise and recovery
        F.  Changes that occur in maturation from childhood to adulthood
          1.  Maximal oxygen uptake
          2.  Resting and maximal heart rate
          3.  Resting and exercising blood pressure
          4.  Body composition and metabolism
 IV.   Pathophysiology and risk factors
        A.  Risk factors necessitating modified physical activity habits
        B.  Cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and metabolic risk factors that may require further evaluation by medical professionals prior to participation
        C.  Blood lipid profile interpretation: LDL, HDL, cholesterol, and triglycerides
