STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. List basic information found on a psychometric and on an enthalpy chart.
II. Describe an entire system on an enthalpy chart and use the information found to diagnose a system.
III. Complete a psychometric chart showing the five basic properties of air.
IV. Demonstrate the ability to determine an unknown air property from two known.
V. List factors for the determination of heat loss and heat gain.
VI. Select and use the steps in calculating heat transfer multipliers.
VII. Demonstrate the ability to use data in the calculation of the heat gain and the heat loss of a typical residence.
VIII. Understand heat transfer coefficients and their application in the field.
IX. Complete a list of mechanical and electrical components.
X Select true statements concerning the processes in the cooling cycle.
XI. Match compressor and component failures to their possible causes.
XII. Demonstrate the ability to trouble shoot, service and repair a residential air conditioning system.
XIII. Install a split system air conditioner.
XIV. Explain basic operation of an air to air heat pump.
