Course Description: | Provides each student with two or more horses to start and train in the following objectives: show at halter; proper grooming; bitting and driving; stand still while being saddled, bridled and mounted; work on the rail; take the proper leads; back; lope circles; stop; two-track; open gates; accept a rope; drag a log; accept a slicker while mounted. The student will also receive instruction in the theory of basic hoof care and proper stable management. This section will end with the student participating in the HTM Semester Horse Show. |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Catch and halter horse
II. Hobble horse
III. Saddle horse
IV. Bridle horse
V. Teach horse accept rider
VI. Teach horse to trot circles
VII. Teach horse to lope circles
VIII. Teach a horse to stop and back
IX. Turn horse in both directions
X Teach horse to take correct leads
XI. Open and shut gates while on the horse
XII. Be able to move horses shoulders in and out
XIII. 360 degree turns on hind quarters
XIV. Know correct positions for showman and horse at halter
