 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Articulate the elements that define adolescence, its subculture, concepts related to the search for identify and self-identity.
 II.     Compare and contrast the psychic, emotional condition, and personality structure of the adolescent who demonstrates delinquent behavior and those who do not based on psychological theoretical concepts.
 III.    Identify the disparity in social perceptions, definitions, and treatment of the behaviors of individuals representing various social classes or races as defined by conflict and radical theories.
 IV.     Describe how the family responses to the child`s emotional, intellectual, physical, and social needs shape that individual`s personality and conduct that is either appropriate or inappropriate or delinquent.
 V.      Explain the role and responses of the justice system related to youth as it has evolved and to assess the results of interventions designed to reduce the incidence of delinquency by juveniles.
 VI.     Articulate the historical development of juvenile correctional institutions, goals, characteristics of incarcerated youth, treatment strategies and inmate subculture.
 VII.    Identify the components of comparative methodology as utilized by criminologists in their research of delinquency in various cultures.
 VIII.   To compare and contrast world data crime statistics given selected variables within specific foreign countries.
 IX.     Explain the meaningfulness of trends in delinquency behaviors by youth on all aspects of life including the family, school, workplace and government.
 X       Explain the potential emerging changes in juvenile justice politics, standards and laws and the compatibility of these directions with treatment interventions that focus on rehabilitation.
