Course Description: | Introduces the student to the philosophy and principles of hospice support for the terminally ill, their family, and friends. It will provide the participants with current information regarding hospice intervention which offers opportunitities for comfort through symptom control, support to patient¿s family and friends in decision-making and coping with anticipatory grieving and death. |

I. Discuss the major role of care for children and adults in last phase of incurable disease.
II. Discuss the historical evolution of hospice nursing.
III. List factors identifying a patient appropriate for hospice care.

V. Discuss the basic principles of hospice management of pain, nausea, constipation, and other symptoms.
VI. Discuss the basic principles of psychosocial support for hospice patients, family, and friends, hospice nurses, and other providers of care.
