STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Demonstrate the use of ten universal precautions and three other OSHA health care standards required in performing phlebotomy.
II. Explore various hospital and laboratory procedure manuals to obtain information about phlebotomy or blood tests.
III. Utilize the laboratory manual to determine the color and number of collection tubes needed for 12 blood tests.
IV. Demonstrate how to identify and establish a relationship with a patient.
V. Analyze data and prioritize steps to perform phlebotomy procedures safely and efficiently.
VI. Explain the importance of liability and legal issues.
