Course Description: | Provides a laboratory expereince to acquaint the prenursing students with culture technique, staining methods, identification systems and methods on control of infectious disease microorganisms. It will include specimen, use of the light microscope, the technique of isolation streaking, antimicrobial sensitivity testing. This laboratory should be taken concurrently with HPR 205 lecture but HPR 205 lecture may be taken without this lab |

STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
I. Use general lab safety regulations as outlined in orientation exercise.
II. Describe and demonstrate proper microscope technique.
III. Demonstrate aseptic method of culture transfer and streaking for isolation.
IV. Demonstrate preparation of slides and performance of various strains in use in microbiology.
V. Demonstrate knowledge of various specimen collection and transport techniques.
VI. Demonstrate knowledge of chemical, physical and chemotherapeutic control of microorganisms.
VII. Demonstrate knowledge of conventional culture techniques and new rapid diagnostic techniques for microorganisms.
