STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
1. Demonstrate correct lead placement and the procedure for obtaining an EKG.
2. Identify normal cardiac anatomy and blood flow through the heart.
3. Label the cardiac conduction system.
4. Explain the various waveforms and intervals found on an EKG.
5. Recognize the characteristics of sinus, atrial, junctional, and ventricular rhythms.
6. Recognize the characteristics of different degrees of heart blocks.
7. Explain the purpose and function of the pacemaker.
TOPICAL OUTLINE:
I. Practice obtaining an EKG.
II. Review of normal cardiac anatomy and blood flow through the heart.
III. Review of the cardiac conduction system.
IV. Review of basic electrocardiography.
