  Course Description:Compares various health careers, health ethics, and work trait attributes required in the health field. Students will be introduced to leadership skills through theory and participation in community awareness projects. The students will have the opportunity to participate in the student organization HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America).

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 1. Identify the different types of health care facilities
 2. Compare the basic principles of different health insurance plans
 3. Explain the purpose of organizational structures for health care facilities
 4. Identify at least three current trend or changes in health care
 5. Compare the educational requirements for an associate, bachelor's and master's degree
 6. Contrast the differences between certification, registration and licensure
 7. Explore at least ten different health careers by including a definition of the career, duties, educational requirements and employment opportunities
 8. Interpret at least ten abbreviations used to identify health care workers
 9. Describe the personal and professional traits/attitudes of a health care worker
 10. Explain how diet, rest, exercise, good posture, and avoiding drugs contribute to good health
 11. Demonstrate the standards of professional appearance as they apply to uniforms, clothing, shoes, nails, hair, jewelry and makeup
 12. Identify the terms and legal action for each of the following: malpractice, negligence, assault & battery, invasion of privacy,
       false imprisonment, abuse and defamation
 13. Define privileged communications and confidentiality in health care
 14. State the legal regulations for health care records
 15. List at least six basic rules of ethics for health care personnel
 16. List at least six rights of the patient who is receiving health care
 17. Be able to apply leadership skills in the community and local chapter of HOSA
 18. Complete 18 hours of required volunteer work in the community
 19. Develop and implement a Community Project
