  Course Description:Introduces the learner to use of personal computer technology and the concepts of software applicable to health care. Basic features of selected software, terminology related to hardware, software and online resources (which include PC, word processing, e-mail) and electronic health-based research will be emphasized. Provides opportunities for practical applications of computer skills to nursing care.

 STANDARD COMPETENCIES:
 
 I.      Use information and communication technologies to document clinical information. (I, II)
 II.     Use available technology to monitor care and report alterations in patient care status, including deviations from normal.(I, II)
 III.    Protect the safety and privacy of the patient¿s computerized health care records and information. (II)
 IV.     Teach patients and their support systems about health care technologies as a resource for gaining information regarding health care issues. (II)
 V.      Use information technology as a communication tool in providing nursing care and education to patients.  (II)
